Organization Overview
Located in Bay Village, our organization is for everyone in the region, not just Bay Village residents. Village Bicycle Cooperative is a 100% volunteer-operated 501c3 nonprofit organization. Founded in 2012, it is located in the ground floor of the historic Community House in Bay Village.
From the onset we have collaborated with local organizations, city government. and businesses to help build community and encourage people to utilize bicycles for transportation, recreation, sport, and an all-around healthy lifestyle.
Our mission is primarily centered around taking donated bicycles from the public, fixing all safety issues on those bicycle, and then providing those bicycles at no cost to disadvantaged people needing them as their primary form of transportation through our Fix-it-Forward program. These bicycles are distributed to clients, at no cost to them, through partner social service agencies that are better suited to evaluate the needs of the client. Utilizing social service agency partners to distribute our completed bicycles provides the client with the added benefit of working with licensed social workers who can provide a variety of services beyond the client's transportation needs.
To support the above mission, the Village Bicycle Cooperative sells bicycles to the public out of our shop, located in the basement of the Community House, in Cahoon Park, in Bay Village. These proceeds help cover our expenses.
Education and advocacy are also important parts of our mission that help make bicycling safer for all.
The sustainability portion of our mission is met through keeping bicycles out of landfills, encouraging bicycling as a pollution-free and carbon-free form of transportation, and operating a low waste shop.
