Fix-it-Forward

Fix-it-Forward

Begun in 2014, the Fix - It - Forward program is Village Bicycle Cooperative’s primary philanthropic mission. It’s goal is to provide safe transportation to people in need. Moreover, we are expanding the program to provide lights for legal night-time operation, and a lock. Oftentimes the bicycles provided are people’s only mode of transportation and can help them hold jobs, get to school, or be introduced to the joy of bicycling!

The bikes are distributed through partnering agencies throughout Northeast Ohio. .Our primary collaborators for this program are: West Park Salvation Army , West Side Catholic Center, Bay Village Community Center, Westlake Police, & Lakewood Community Services. These agencies verify the client's need for a bicycle, and also connect the client with other social service offerings that meet their needs.

None of this would be possible without the tremendous effort and time donated by VBC’s volunteer force, and the generosity of North Eastern Ohio communities that donate so much to help us carry out this wonderful giving program.!

Each year we set a goal to out - perform last years total donations. This year we need to donate at least 100 bicycles to do so! As such volunteers are always needed to help us check-in, refurbish, and deliver bikes. Interested people can just drop in during hours labeled "Fix-it-Forward" on our calendar and be ready to work on bicycles. No experience required.

Financial donations are needed to provide funds to purchase new locks, lights, and helmets.
